If I have to hear my mother yell at me for picking at my lips one more time I might lose it. But she's right. Picking at dry flakey lips can be pretty repulsive. In the winter, my lips get so dry and practically nothing fully resolves the issue. However, I have found a few products and techniques that keep my lips smooth to my liking.
Lip scrub. Lip scrubs are the best way to get rid of all the dead skin on your lips. They are rough but gentle enough to not cause any bleeding. If you tend to pick at your lips a lot, lip scrubs will get rid of all that dead skin. My two favorite lip scrubs are from Sugar and LUSH. If you don't want to invest in a lip scrub you can easily make your own with this recipe:
2 tbs. Brown Sugar
2-3 tbs. Coconut Oil
After you use your lip scrub it's super important to take advantage of those freshly scrubbed lips and apply a thick coat of a heavy duty balm. I swear by Korres lip balm. It is thick and nourishes my lips all night long while I sleep. I don't use a thick layer of it during the day, I just mostly use is a night time deep conditioning treatment.
When you wake up in the morning your lips will feel as soft as a baby's bottom. You want to make that last by having chapstick on you AT ALL TIMES. Some of my favorites are: Burts Bee's Wax, Blistex and EOS. Even if you put lipstick on make sure to apply a coat of chapstick underneath to keep them from chapping throughout the day!
